Find Computer Serial Number in Ubuntu

I was wondering what my serial number was of my computer. I wanted to look up the hardware warranty on it. My computer is a Dell so it also supports Linux, which I have installed. The command that I found to get this information is as follows:

sudo dmidecode -s system-serial-number

This produced the serial number of my computer.

If you want to find out the type of RAM you need for replacement or upgrade that command is as follows:

sudo dmidecode –type 17

Here is the code to find system information:

sudo dmidecode | grep -A 9 “System Information”

I hope this helps someone out there.
