How to Install Minecraft Client in Linux

This is just one of those things that I don’t do everyday so I wanted to record it so I would not have to go and Google it again when I do this another 6 months from now. I am currently running Ubuntu 18.04 on my laptop.

The first thing we should do as always is to update your apt repository with this command at the terminal:

sudo apt update

The next thing we do is install Java with this command:

sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk

When it prompts you make sure to type a ‘y’. Make sure to check if it installed properly with this command:

javac -version

As of this writing, my version of java comes up with javac1.8.0_191. The next step is to download minecraft from their website minecraft.net. I downloaded the .deb file and installed the program. Then from there I logged on and started playing.
